Job Description

Summary

The Postdoctoral Associate will lead experimental validation studies focused on regulatory and noncoding mechanisms of oncogene deregulation, leukemia subtype biology, and treatment resistance. The role integrates computationally nominated Postdoctoral Associate mechanisms with cell-based assays, molecular assays, perturbation experiments, chromatin/regulatory profiling, and functional follow-up studies. The Postdoctoral Associate would train or mentor students, technicians, or junior trainees as the laboratory grows. Study complexity includes integration of patient-derived multiomic discovery data with mechanistic experimental systems. The work focuses on regulatory genomics questions involving noncoding variants, structural rearrangements, chromatin accessibility, enhancer-promoter contacts, and transcription factor circuitry.

Baylor College of Medicine typically follows similar to the NIH stipulated stipend guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates.

Job Duties

  • Plans, conducts, and analyzes specialized experiments to validate candidate leukemia driver mechanisms nominated from genomic and multiomic data.
  • Develops and implements molecular and cell-based assays that includes reporter assays, CRISPR-based perturbation approaches, transcriptional readouts, chromatin-state assays, and molecular validation studies.
  • Coordinates experimental design with computational analysis teams, clinical sample workflows, and shared institutional cores.
  • Maintains experimental documentation, assay QC records, cell-line records, sample metadata, and reproducible wet-lab protocols.
  • Interprets experimental results in the context of patient-derived genomic and multiomic data; prepare figures, reports, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Coordinates functional validation of cryptic structural and noncoding regulatory alterations identified from WGS, long-read sequencing, WTS, DNA methylation, ATAC-seq, and HiChIP data.
  • Manages cell-line and model-system studies testing candidate regulatory mechanisms using reporter assays, CRISPR-based enhancer or breakpoint perturbation, transcriptional readouts, chromatin-state profiling, and molecular validation assays.
  • Manages experimental studies of high-risk leukemia/lymphoma regulatory programs, including subtype-specific transcription factor circuits, enhancer-promoter relationships, and regulatory states associated with treatment resistance or relapse.
  • Coordinates wet-lab experiments with computational teams, clinical sample workflows, and shared cores.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular biology, cancer biology, genetics, genomics, hematology, biomedical sciences, or related field.
  • Experience in leukemia biology, cancer genomics, regulatory genomics, cell culture, molecular cloning, reporter assays, CRISPR-based perturbation, chromatin assays, sequencing-based assays, primary or cell-line model systems, data interpretation, figure preparation, and manuscript writing.
  • Strong experimental design and assay troubleshooting skills are important.
