Summary






The Radiology Physician Assistant provides clinical and procedural support to Interventional Radiologists in the evaluation and treatment of patients. The position involves assisting with interventional radiology procedures, performing clinical assessments, coordinating patient care, and providing pre- and post-procedural management under the supervision of staff physicians. The Physician Assistant works collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure adherence to clinical protocols.







Job Purpose





Provides advanced patient care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.







Job Duties








    • Assists physicians in Interventional Radiology procedures and clinical evaluations.


    • Obtains detailed patient histories and performs physical examinations.


    • Orders and interprets diagnostic studies including X-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic procedures.


    • Administers therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care.


    • Provides pre-operative counseling and gathers informed consent for interventional radiology procedures.


    • Records pre-operative, operative, and post-operative notes and orders.


    • Maintains accurate and timely documentation including patient histories, physical findings, progress notes, treatments, and procedures.


    • Develops treatment plans and prognosis in collaboration with supervising physicians.


    • Provides written discharge instructions and educates patients on therapeutic regimens, home care, and health maintenance.


    • Performs follow-up evaluations and ongoing patient care in accordance with physician-established protocols.


    • Performs procedures including abscess incision and drainage and wound closure.


    • Provides post-operative wound care and counseling.


    • Discusses patient cases with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans.


    • Prescribes or recommends medications and other treatments such as physical therapy, consistent with scope of practice and institutional protocols.


    • Refers patients to physicians or specialized healthcare resources when appropriate.


    • Provides general medical care and treatment under the direction of Interventional Radiologists.


    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by staff Interventional Radiologists.









Minimum Qualifications






  • Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.


  • Experience Required: None required.


  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
