The Research Associate II will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator to help establish and operate a basic science/translational research laboratory focused on cutaneous lymphoma biology at City of Hope. This individual will perform molecular biology experiments, manage laboratory workflows, maintain supplies/equipment, and help generate high-quality datasets for downstream analyses.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Molecular Biology & Sequencing

  • Perform molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and nucleic acid quantification.

  • Conduct next-generation sequencing library preparation (DNA, RNA, or targeted panels) following established protocols.

  • Assist with sample preparation for single-cell sequencing, proteomic assays, or spatial profiling as the lab develops.

  • Process patient-derived biospecimens (blood, tissue, PBMCs, skin biopsies) following IRB and biosafety protocols.

Laboratory Operations & Equipment

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including thermal cyclers, centrifuges, biosafety hoods, sequencers, microscopes, and flow cytometers.

  • Prepare solutions, reagents, buffers, stains, and media according to standard laboratory formulas.

  • Track inventory levels, order supplies, and ensure an efficiently functioning laboratory environment.

Experimental Design & Data Handling

  • Assist in planning experiments, optimizing protocols, and interpreting results in collaboration with the PI.

  • Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks, sample logs, and project documentation.

  • Perform basic computational analysis (e.g., qPCR data analysis, gel quantification, flow cytometry gating) with opportunities to advance in bioinformatics.

Collaboration & Translational Support

  • Interface with the clinical team to coordinate transfer and tracking of patient samples from the cutaneous lymphoma cohort.

  • Ensure chain-of-custody documentation for samples entering the laboratory.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary translational research meetings.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Two years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree or one year related research/ laboratory experience with a Master’s degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with core molecular biology techniques.

  • Prior experience with sequencing library preparation, PCR optimization, or advanced molecular techniques.

  • Experience in dermatology, immunology, cancer biology, or related research.

  • Familiarity with R, Python, or Linux in a bioinformatics context.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $33.99 - $52.69 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
