Job Description

Temporary Postdoctoral Scientist - Freeman Lab

Department: Genes & Human Disease
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Freeman Lab is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Scientist to work on NIH and VA aging research projects that examine neuroinflammatory changes in the CNS with ages, between sexes, and in models of Alzheimer's Disease pathology.
These projects utilize transgenic mice with cell-type specific labeling and inhibition of specific signaling molecules that allows for cell type-specific understanding of these processes. These projects involve extensive flow cytometry analysis to characterize, track, and sort cell types and phenotypes. These projects also integrate animal behavior, biochemical assessments, and state-of-the-art sequencing, and imaging.
The lab environment is highly supportive of learning new techniques for molecular biology, neuroimmunology, proteomics, epigenetics, and bioinformatics. The ideal candidate will be innovative, collaborative, and highly motivated who can work independently but also with other investigators of varied training experience. The environment within the Aging Research Community at OMRF/OKC VAMC/OUHSC is rich with opportunities for students and postdocs. Aging research (Geroscience) is a cross-institution thematic priority and the program has grown dramatically in recent years through the addition of new faculty, the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging and the Geroscience Training Program (T32).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a biological science, biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, reproductive biology, physiology, chemistry, physics or other relevant area, M.D., or equivalent.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic about science.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and write summaries of result.
  • Professionalism while interacting with a diverse group of people, personalities, and cultures.
    Preferred Qualifications
Individuals with previous experience in neuroinflammation, flow cytometry, immunology, and bioinformatics are particularly encouraged to apply.
