As an Art Therapist, you will use art media, imagery, and the creative process to help patients address social, psychological, and physical challenges. Working closely with an interdisciplinary team, you will contribute to comprehensive care plans that support healing and personal growth. Through your expertise, you will guide patients in developing coping skills, fostering alternative forms of expression, enhancing socialization, improving sensorimotor coordination and problem-solving abilities, reducing problematic behaviors, and encouraging engagement with treatment.
Caregivers in this role will work Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Saturday and Sunday will be worked 1 weekend per month.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Use art media, images and the creative art process to assist patients with social, psychological and physical difficulties.
- Work alongside an interdisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive plan of care for the patient.
- Assist patients in a variety of areas including developing coping skills, promoting alternate modes of expression, increasing socialization, enhancing sensorimotor coordination and problem solving skills.
- Provide group and individual art therapy sessions to patients on various units within the hospital.
- Evaluate the patient's treatments needs, abilities and resources.
- Attend and participate in designated plan of care tea meetings concerning the patient and family
- Adhere to general expectations for all employees in order that the program functions in an effective manner to meet the treatment needs of the patient
- Complete routine paperwork within the prescribed time frames and will accurately document all pertinent and meaningful observations and information on appropriate forms
- Maintain the confidentiality of patients, staff and hospital
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from a college or university program accredited by the American Therapy Association (AATA)
- Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) through the Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board OR Registered Art Therapist with Board Certification (ATR-BC) through the Art Therapy Credential Board with LPAT must be obtained within the first 90 days of hire.
- Maintain de-escalation training, WELLE certification which must be obtained within the first 90 days of hire
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within the first 90 days of hire
- One year experience in Art Therapy Services in an inpatient hospital setting, time spent in practicum will be considered
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
