Job Description
The IT AI Engineer designs, builds, and maintains machine learning pipelines and application integrations that extend the University’s cloud and on-premise services. Working within established data governance and security frameworks, the position collaborates with team members to implement integrations using APIs, MCPs, and institutional data sources to deliver reliable, enterprise-grade AI solutions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of experience in Artificial Intelligence or Information Technology, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Skills and Knowledge
Experience in deploying AI/ML platforms (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex, Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI, etc.).
Background in data integration, ETL processes, and API consumption.
Proficiency in one or more coding languages for the purposes of AI/ML integration.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP) and related containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or serverless platforms (Logic Apps).
Understanding of data governance, privacy, and ethical AI principles.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
Deploy, and maintain AI platforms and services across university systems.
Integrate structured and unstructured data from diverse sources to optimize AI model performance.
Integrate AI with both pre-existing and new systems to ensure seamless functionality.
Collaborate with academic and administrative units to identify AI use cases and deliver tailored solutions.
Develop and maintain APIs and pipelines for real-time and batch data processing.
Ensure AI systems comply with Syracuse University’s ISF, FERPA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards.
