What Your Job Will Be Like:
Department 9774 has an opening for a Solutions Architect. The selected candidate will serve as a primary architect for storage systems solutions, requiring knowledge of and experience with information systems domains such as information assurance, hardware, software, networking, and systems security. This position will support Enterprise storage capabilities and services for all of Sandia’s corporately supported unclassified and classified networks.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
- Lead projects and develop roadmaps for the Storage Systems Team
- Collaborate with customers, vendors, and IT partners within our department and across Sandia
- Establish service level requirements for performance, reliability, and security for Storage Systems
- Provide storage administration support for systems that host critical applications and services
- Support full lifecycle management (analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, integration and maintenance) for the Enterprise Storage Services team.
The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.
Salary Range:
$114,000 - $227,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information and Communication Technology, MIS, STEM, or a related field plus 5 years of experience; or equivalent (AS + 9 years or no degree + 13 years)
- Experience leading or managing programs, projects, services, and/or teams
- Experience working in a large, distributed environment providing storage services at large scale (multiple petabytes)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team to deliver results and meet department objectives
- Ability to develop and nurture effective customer and partner relationships internal and external to a team
- Experience with the following storage devices: SAN, NAS, ECS, etc.
- Ability to negotiate and meet technical and programmatic requirements to the satisfaction of the customer in the execution of complex information technology projects
- Experience handling storage services hosting a variety of customer workloads, such as: Virtual Desktop, web applications, databases (Oracle, SQL, etc.), Splunk, and custom applications
- Experience or knowledge in IT automation, command line interface, API calls, and configuration management integration for storage services
- Experience with storage management portals for 3Par, Pure, and Brocade services
- Experience with replication and synchronization technologies in the storage service space
- Experience with deploying block storage solutions to physical, virtual, and cloud environments
- Understanding of information system accreditations, and cyber security requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- Project Management and organizational skills.

About Our Team:
Department 9774, Data Center Operations, is responsible for managing the daily activities of critical IT services. This includes working in collaboration with the SNL Facilities team in several 24x7 data center environments to ensure all critical systems are operational supporting the mission of the IT infrastructure for Sandia National Laboratories. The storage team architects and delivers all Enterprise storage services for redundancy, automatic failover, and failback. Our backup team ensures backup and recovery for physical, virtual, and appliance-based systems. The firewall team delivers secure network traffic control inside and outside the laboratory, ensuring innovative application delivery. Lastly, the Core Networking and Software Defined Networking teams ensure application and service availability, connectivity, resiliency, to both internal and external customers. All these services operate on both the unclassified and classified levels.
Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:
