City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

As a successful candidate, you will:

The Biomedical Engineering Technician II (BMET II) is responsible for the inspection, calibration, maintenance, and repair of a broad range of medical devices used in clinical settings. This position requires strong mid-level skills, troubleshooting abilities, and an understanding of medical device regulations and safety standards. The BMET II works closely with clinical staff to ensure equipment reliability and patient safety, providing support in the installation and testing of new devices.

Duties & Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on various medical devices, including but not limited to patient monitors, infusion pumps, defibrillators, ventilators, and general biomedical equipment.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment updates in compliance with regulatory standards.

Troubleshooting and Calibration:

  • Diagnose equipment issues using diagnostic software, service manuals, and schematics.
  • Calibrate devices to ensure accurate and safe operation according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Address user-reported problems, providing timely resolutions to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting supporting for complex equipment issues that require escalation beyond standard technician capabilities.
  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers for technical support and resolution of equipment issues under warranty.

Installation and Testing:

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and testing of new medical devices.
  • Conduct initial inspections and acceptance testing of newly acquired equipment.
  • Ensure all devices meet performance criteria and regulatory compliance before deployment.

Equipment Inventory and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, including updates on repairs, service history, and device locations.
  • Maintain the documentation of maintenance activities, repairs and performance checks in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Track and manage equipment warranties and service contracts.

User Training and Support:

  • Assist in providing training and technical support to clinical staff on the proper use and basic maintenance of medical devices.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize equipment use and safety.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, including standards set by The Joint Commission, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in safety audits and risk assessments as required.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other BMETs, biomedical engineers, IT, and nursing staff to address equipment needs and resolve technical issues.
  • Assist in projects involving the integration of medical devices with healthcare IT systems (e.g., EMR integration, interoperability, etc..)

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School diploma
  • 3 years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or similar role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or to be attained within 6 months of hire
  • Valid state driver’s license

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $32.44 - $50.28 / hour
