SALARY & PERSONNEL BENEFITS:

The current salary schedule range for an entering tenure-track faculty member is $74,473 - $116,752 plus an earned doctoral bonus of $3,723.65 Depending on the entry step, the faculty member advances one-step each year and has the potential to reach the current maximum step of $148,626, depending on the educational level attained. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience. In addition to salary, each full-time employee participates in a "cafeteria style" health and welfare benefits program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

Santa Barbara City College is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member positions in the Marine Diving Program to start in Fall 2024. In 2009, SBCC was designated as an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting our responsibility to support and serve the needs of our Latina/o/x students. Moreover, given our overall student population, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to join a department that is dedicated to the use of curriculum and pedagogy that shares SBCC's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse post-traditional student population.

Commencing Fall 2024, a full-time tenure-track faculty position will be available in the Marine Diving Program. Responsibilities include teaching courses in commercial diving and marine related subject areas

Updated 4/30/2024 (e.g., SCUBA, helmet maintenance and repair, seamanship, rigging, navigation and small boat handling, petroleum technology, Non- Destructive Testing (NDT), marine engine and compressor operations, marine electricity and electronics, hydraulics, and surface & underwater cutting & welding). The position is also responsible for department oversight including scheduling, budget management, faculty support and development, pedagogical operations, plant and equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, administrative liaison, and staff supervision. The preferred candidate will have training and experience in curriculum development and Student Learning Outcomes and their purpose. This position will act as the College Diving Safety Officer having purview over all diving activities under the auspices of Santa Barbara City College. Other responsibilities include contributions to department goals, maintenance of required office hours sufficient to meet student needs, full participation in departmental activities and responsibilities, participation in the governance of the college via committee assignments, and collaboration with representatives of the marine construction industry.

Please Note: A successful candidate shall have graduated from the U.S. Navy Dive School or an Accredited Commercial Diver Training program by the start of Fall 2024 AND be able to obtain certification as an Association of Diving Contractors International Air Diving Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

1. Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, OR

2. Any associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR

3. Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to all of the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required material.

4. Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

If the title of your degree as stated on your transcripts DOES NOT EXACTLY MATCH one of the degree titles listed in the minimum qualifications listed above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. Those documents include a completed SBCC Equivalency Crosswalk and a narrative synopsis of your educational background justifying equivalency

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

● Commitment to the community college mission.

● An understanding of the implications a Hispanic-Serving designation suggests for institutional,

departmental, and instructional practices.

● An understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of racially and/or ethnically minoritized

students within Higher Education shape patterns of participation and outcomes within the classroom.

● Evidence of working effectively with racially and/or ethnically diverse populations.

● Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of students with different ability statuses (e.g.

physical and/or learning)

● An understanding of anti-racist and culturally-responsive pedagogical practices which honor and

respect what students bring to the classroom and uses students' prior knowledge and/or lived experiences to inform instruction.

● Evidence of working effectively with post-traditional students

● Has experience or has demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring and/or engaging in services for Black and Brown students

● Has demonstrated knowledge of barriers for Black and Brown students and experience in addressing disproportionate impact at an institution

● Has experience in or has demonstrated commitment in facilitating Black and Brown students' navigating a higher education institution

● Has experience or has demonstrated commitment to integrating elements of culturally relevant and inclusive pedagogy.

● Ability to update one's skills, keep current with emerging trends in industry and make appropriate program modifications that reflect these trends.

● Knowledge of instructional strategies for promoting student learning.
