MRI Physicist - Faculty Position

 

Under the general direction of the Department Chair, Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, Clinical Physics, and the Moffitt Research Leadership, the MRI Physicist will assume the role of a senior scientist and play a critical role in optimizing MRI imaging for both clinical and research tasks within the clinical and pre-clinical activities of the Department of Radiology. Clinically, this position will report to the Chief of Medical Physics.


The MRI Physicist/Faculty Medical Physicist (FMP) is a positive, effective member of the Diagnostic Imaging Faculty and Radiology Research teams, fostering a customer/patient focused perspective and ensuring a strong commitment to organizational service standards. The individual maintains collaborative multi-disciplinary relationships within and outside of the Department. A Faculty Medical Physicist (FMP) has the predominant responsibility of advancing the academic vision and mission of the Moffitt Cancer Center and the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology by active participation in clinical care, educational programs, and innovative research.

The MRI Physicist will be devoted to developing, implementing, evaluating and applying novel MRI image acquisition and analysis techniques for human high-field and ultra-high field MRI scanners with emphasis on body imaging. Other related duties as assigned by appropriate Leadership.

 

Requirements:

• Successful candidates must have a PhD in Medical Physics, Physics or closely related field, be eligible for the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiologic/Medical Physics or equivalent.
• Formal coursework in anatomy, physiology, or other related biological science.
• Three (3) to five (5) years experience and proven knowledge of MRI physical principles, including clinical applications and safety.
• Prior experience and knowledge of MR accreditation and compliance testing.
• Strong communication and time management skills.
• Track record of collaborative clinical and research work.

Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, Florida’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is a rapidly growing center affiliated with the University of South Florida. The Cancer Center is comprised of a large ambulatory care facility, a 206-bed hospital, with a 36-bed blood and marrow transplant program, 20 state of the art operating suites, a 30-bed intensive care unit, a high-volume screening program, and a basic science research facility. The Moffitt Research Institute (MRI) is comprised of approximately 160 Principal Investigators, 58 laboratories, and 306,000 square feet of research space.
