Job Summary:

The faculty member will actively engage in expanding the current prevention programs and advancing research within the Department of Preventive Medicine and Population Health within the School of Medicine, with a particular focus on measuring the impact of innovative program intervention approaches in health education, establishment, and uptake of prevention and/or treatment programs in various areas of prevention. The position will be expected to apply for extramural funding to support expansion of the current program areas within Preventive Medicine and Population Health. This faculty member will be expected to contribute to community engagement, health education, collaboration, high-quality research, teaching, and mentoring, and fostering a culture of excellence in all these activities.

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Research Expertise: Develop and execute original research within Preventive Medicine, with a strong emphasis on areas such as health equity, health disparities, and prevention education, access, and uptake of evidence-based interventions within rural populations.
Publication and Dissemination: Effectively communicate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences, contributing to the academic discourse in prevention research with a focus on rural or underserved populations.
Teaching and Mentorship: Provide effective instruction and mentorship to students, residents, and faculty in various research methodologies, including but not limited to study design, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, dissemination/implementation science focused on evidence-based practices.
Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow faculty and students on research projects, offering expertise in research methodology and statistical analyses, encompassing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches.
Supervision: Help lead teams of health educators and experts as supported from grant funding from state and national resources to serve a 35-county region in East Texas.

Interprofessional Collaboration: Adeptness in collaborating with public health and health sciences innovators and educators from diverse backgrounds, fostering multi-disciplinary educational research initiatives.
Innovation: Demonstrated ability to explore and integrate innovative techniques and methodologies to enhance the depth and quality of evidence-based interventions in selected areas of research.
Leadership: Evidence of engagement within the fields relating to prevention and population health research, including participation in academic societies.
Grant Acquisition: Demonstrated ability to secure external research grants to support program and research activities.
Technological Proficiency: Proficiency in relevant software programs for data collection and statistical analysis.
Qualifications

Required Education / Experience:

An earned doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, such as public health, health communication, health services research or degrees in medicine, nursing, or other clinical fields with advanced research training and experience.
Three to Five (3-5) years’ experience in implementing public health and preventive medicine interventions, program development, and teaching.
