Job Description
The Lab Manager will support research projects in the Nathan Clark lab in the Department of Biological Sciences. Clark lab research in Evolutionary Genetics uses genomics, zebrafish genetics, and computational phylogenetics to identify genes and regulatory regions responding to environmental challenges. The Manager will lead original research projects (including data collection and analysis), preparation of scientific publications, and lab upkeep and compliance.Job Summary
Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Develops and collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.
Essential Functions
Plan and carry out complex scientific experiments and studies.
Move and organize lab supplies and small equipment.
Identify & delegate lab jobs/responsibilities with other lab members.
Care for and perform experiments with zebrafish and microinject zebrafish zygotes.
Precisely prepare chemical solutions.
Analyze large imaging and genomics datasets.
Perform confocal and fluorescence microscopy.
Prepare written manuscripts reporting the results, analysis and conclusions of scientific studies.
Physical Effort
Lab maintenance requires daily movement of boxes of lab supplies, solutions, containers, and small equipment.
Research activities require daily physical effort to move, manipulate, feed, and care for zebrafish.
Both activities require cleaning of bottles, containers, and benchtops multiple times per week.
