What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking an R&D Electrical Engineer to join the W93/Mk7 program to develop and lead the functional testing activities needed to evaluate and qualify the nuclear weapon system. The successful candidate will become part of a highly motivated, mission-driven team, supporting the engineering and programmatic challenges of a new development program. Responsibilities will include: + Collaborating regularly with partners at Sandia, Los Alamos National Laboratories, Lockheed Martin Space, Applied Physics Lab, Navy Strategic Programs, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) to develop joint qualification strategies for the program + Defining the technical details of the functional testing plans, both for early design evaluation and formal system qualification, including performance characterization in operational environments, test asset definition and hardware planning, testing resources identification and facility engagement, and joint testing agreements between our partners + Defining testing data needs and driving the development of the system functional tester + Managing the systems engineering complexities that influence evaluation and qualification activities through the use of tools (e.g. mapping system requirements to verification requirements/data needs, test events, test plans, results, etc.) + Engaging with the system design team and component organizations throughout system development to define and inform approaches to help mature system architecture and design decisions towards a successful final qualification + Managing testing resources and providing support for laboratory and field test activities + Preparing test plans, test execution, data analysis, and generation of technical reports + Managing modeling/simulation resources, and integrating resulting analysis with test activities to generate comprehensive evidence packages + Preparing presentations and other supporting documentation needed for technical reviews Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s and Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in an engineering or science discipline plus 1 year of relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree plus 5 years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree + Active DOE Q (or equivalent) clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Sigma 15 security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Experience in systems engineering of complex systems; multidisciplinary experience across areas such as design, testing, and/or analysis; specialized experience in functional testing of electrical circuits; computer programming and data processing + Specific experience in Nuclear Weapon component or system design, development, qualification, or production + Demonstrated ability to understand and work with a diverse set of technologies, testing, and analytical methods + Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to work successfully across broad teams with competing interests + Specific experience building and maintaining relationships across the DOE and DoD + Experience applying model-based systems engineering (MBSE) techniques to manage interdependencies and complexities across the system About Our Team: The W93 System Evaluation and Qualification Department (02446) has the primary responsibility to plan and coordinate all evaluation activities for the W93/Mk7 Navy Strategic Reentry System Program. These evaluation activities involve modeling, simulation, and physical testing, both on the ground and during flight, in support of the maturation and ultimate qualification of the W93/Mk7 reentry body system design. We work closely with our partners and program stakeholders, including NNSA Federal Program Managers, the US Navy, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Los Alamos National Lab, the Sandia nuclear weapons component organizations, the Sandia science & technology community, Kansas City Plant National Security Campus (NSC), the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), and many others, to coordinate expertise and foster innovation in efforts to better “design for evaluation”. The department sets and executes the strategic plan with our partners to evaluate the reentry system in an effective and efficient manner to achieve the overall program testing objectives. Security Clearance: Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
