Summary

The Office of Surgical Research within the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a skilled Research Coordinator (Level II) to oversee the day-to-day activities of research protocols, including screening, enrolment, and monitoring of research participants. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring accurate data collection, documentation, organization, and participant safety. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work independently, possess strong organizational skills, and have a working knowledge of medical terminology.

 

We are looking for an ideal candidate who can work independently with a strong sense of professionalism and is willing to accommodate occasional irregular working hours. It's crucial that the candidate has a proven grasp of regulatory affairs and IRB processes. Moreover, this role entails precise data collection, meticulous documentation, effective organization, and a commitment to ensuring the safety of research participants. The standard working hours for this position are typically from 8 AM to 5 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break. However, we prefer candidates who are available to occasionally work during weekends as needed to support protocol requirements. 

Job Duties

  • Interviews research potential subjects with the purpose of recruitment, screening, and enrollment, which may include scheduling research visits, procedures and lab testing.
  • Consenting of subjects to research protocols following Good Clinical Practice guidelines. 
  • Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database.  
  • May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocol. 
  • Retrieves and submits test results to appropriate party. 
  • May correspond with patient throughout study. 
  • Orders supplies and equipment. 
  • Performs other job duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Clinical research experience.
