Within Argonne is the Advanced Photon Source (APS), a large User facility operated for the Department of Energy.

The Advanced Photon Source provides ultra-bright, high-energy storage ring-generated x-ray beams for research in almost all scientific disciplines. These x-rays allow scientists to pursue new knowledge about the structure and function of materials in the center of the Earth, in outer space, and all points in between.

The Advanced Photon Source is seeking an experienced and motivated manager who will be responsible for the oversight of the Information Technology (IT) group to ensure effective and efficient support for computing and network systems. You will be managing a team that supports the accelerator, beamline, and business operations networks, systems, and services. In addition, the IT team is responsible for the designing, engineering, implementation, and management of services running on all system platforms within this environment.

  • Oversee physical security of all hardware systems, networks and server infrastructure at the APS.
  • Promotes effective interdivisional IT operations by encouraging performance-based management and where appropriate, facilitates the restructure of mission-related processes before making significant IT investments to improve the performance and cost-effectiveness of the APS information management activities.
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains a comprehensive and effective cyber/computer security program to protect the APS information and information technology assets.
  • Oversees all external connections to the APS network including Web Services, file transfer, high performance computing and Telepresence.
