Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The position will be part of the Office of Institutional Data, Analysis, and Planning. The offices of Academic Planning and Institutional Research (apir.wisc.edu) and Data Management and Analytics (data.wisc.edu) are in the process of joining together to form this new office that will serves a vital role in providing reliable, consistent answers to critical campus questions through enterprise data architecture, integrations, and analytic solutions enabled through a robust data governance framework to advance using data to inform strategic efforts at UW-Madison.

As part of an exciting modernization of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's data and analytics architecture, the Business Systems Analyst will support the design and delivery of a UW-Madison integrated data warehouse, which includes migration to a cloud architecture. As part of their role, they will perform discovery and lead subject-matter experts through requirements elicitation/documentation; facilitate iterative design/prototyping sessions; document functional specifications, ensure alignment with technical specifications, document test cases; perform functional tests, facilitate user acceptance testing, troubleshoot/document issues, and coordinate fixes/enhancements through to production deployment.

The individual in this role is expected to have strong analytical and technical skills combined with excellent communication skills along with the ability to develop and maintain trusted client relationships with key stakeholders.

EDUCATION:
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Degree in Business Management, Computer Science/MIS, science, healthcare-related science; or high school degree/general education diploma and 4-6 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience as business analyst, quality analyst, or product owner on technology development (analytics and data management) projects.
- Experience eliciting and documenting business requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to lead groups to consensus within defined timeframes

Preferred:
- Strong analytical skills. Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data;
- Designs workflows and procedures
- Effective problem-solving skills. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; works well in group problem-solving situations
- Ability to effectively work with diverse constituencies
- Proven record of process improvement strategies and implementation
- Planning and organization (project management skills). Able to coordinate many different project tasks (determines relative importance of each; prioritizes and plans work activities; sets appropriate deadlines to complete activities accordingly); effectively manages time and resources; sets goals and objectives
- Knowledge of enterprise student, HR, finance, research administration business processes at UW-Madison or a similarly complex university or university system
- Infectious curiosity and learning mindset; independently identifies areas of competency development and designs learning goals to achieve expertise
