Job Description

he Department of Surgery , Division of Surgical Sciences, at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University is accepting applications for a Staff Asscociate I. Candidate will support the research projects under supervision of the PI, Dr. Shirley Yan.

Perform research, collect and manage data, operate equipment, pull samples and assist with grants prepaeration A ssist with the designing and implementing of experiments critical to the lab, which may include molecular cloning, animal work, Western blotting, Immunohisochemistry analysis. Other tasks include:

Maintaining a lab notebook or records related to task
Assisting in the collection of lab chemical wastes.
Preparing solutions, isolating DNA and RNA, performining PCR, preparing and running agarose gels and immunoblotting, detecting DNA and real-time PCR and recording the results.
Calibration/upkeep of laboratory equipment.
Interact with personnel from other related research projects.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Neuroscience or related field. 4 years experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: Microsoft Excel, Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques, Excellent organization skills, Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment and Ability to learn and perform a variety of new techniques.
