Participates in all aspects of the health and welfare of laboratory animals, including daily monitoring and treatment, maintaining accurate health records, and providing requested technical services that includes inducing and monitoring anesthesia for multiple species. Provides training and mentorship to entry level veterinary technicians.
A senior veterinary technician will provide veterinary care to all animals at BCM.
Perform daily observational rounds, health checks, and treatments on animal patients, under the guidance of veterinarians.
These observations are maintained in both written and electronic animal records.
Additionally, responsibilities include maintaining daily treatment records as well as, anesthetic records, post-operative records, drug logs, and inventory records.
The Senior vet tech will provide research support to investigators, which can include injections, blood collections, anesthesia support, post-operative care, and treatment as directed by veterinarian.
The senior vet tech will provide training to new vet techs on both rodent and large animal procedures and techniques, as well as provide mentorship to entry level technicians.
Associate's degree in a related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Three years of relevant experience.
Certified Laboratory Animal Technologist (LAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS)
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
3+ years of laboratory animal veterinary technician experience.
Standard vivarium environment with typical vivarium environmental hazards and concerns.
