Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in quantitative RNA biology to identify mechanisms of noncoding RNAs in disease and development

The Zamudio lab in the UCLA Department of Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology, the Broad Stem Cell Research Center, and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking career-driven and creative Postdoctoral Research Associates to join our team. We are studying new mechanisms of gene regulation by functional noncoding RNAs using a combination of cell biology, biochemistry, genomic, and system biology approaches. Laboratory research will involve a variety of cutting-edge approaches in RNA, computational and stem cell biology providing an excellent multidisciplinary research training opportunity. Additionally, UCLA Life Sciences has excellent professional development resources that are available to support your career objectives.This position is funded by the NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences and will help establish novel mechanisms in Argonaute and lincRNA regulation. We will focus on defining how noncoding RNAs contribute to cell cycle progression and genome stability. Available projects are discovering new ways that noncoding RNAs function and determining how they act during disease progression to expand treatment strategies.
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics/Genomics, Bioinformatics, Chemistry or a related field is required. Experience and publication record in biochemistry, statistical genomics, computational biology, stem cell biology or related fields is desired. Additional experience analyzing CLIP, ChIP, WGBS or RNA-seq data is preferred, but not required. Applicants with strong background in RNA molecular biology, genetics or related fields who are interested in developing new genomic approaches in mouse models are also encouraged to apply. Competitive candidates will have a record of scientific productivity, leadership and collaborations.

Requirements and desired skills for the position:
● PhD or MD degree.
● No more than three years of prior work as a postdoctoral fellow.
● Training in biochemistry, computational or molecular biology.
● Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
● Desirable skills and experience include: (1) prior work with mammalian stem cells or laboratory mice; (2) RNA characterization; (3) experience with protein manipulation including immunodetection and isolation of complexes; (4) analysis of genomic datasets; (5) performing genetic screens.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
