The Griffin lab is hiring a Research Technician to conduct histological and imaging analyses of mouse limbs for studies on osteoarthritis. Will work independently and with our research team to prepare biological samples for microscopic analysis using paraffin embedding and sectioning techniques. Will perform special staining and protocol design as well as routine maintenance on histology equipment. Will also perform imaging of stained slides and assist with quantitative and qualitative histopathology assessments. Duties may also include specimen imaging and analyses using microcomputed tomography. Training will be provided as needed. The position is available immediately.
BS/BA in one of the biological sciences, chemistry, physics, or biomedical engineering or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Must be highly motivated, organized, and detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to multi-task, attend to multiple projects, and problem solve. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as in a group setting that involves interdisciplinary interactions with faculty, staff, and post-doctoral trainees. Should be familiar with lab techniques. Apply developing knowledge to coordinate day-to-day work, complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments. Basic knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, data base and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented and work independently as well as a team player. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals. Ability to speak effectively to present ideas and data analysis to supervisor, who will decide how to proceed. Suggest changes to experiments and procedures. Ability to exchange ideas and procedures with co-workers and other labs.
