Job Description

Postdoctoral Position | Neurocircuitry of Addiction

Kumar and O'Connell Lab

A joint postdoctoral position is available in the laboratories of Drs. Vivek Kumar and Kristen O’Connell The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) in Bar Harbor, Maine.

We seek a postdoctoral scientist to study the neural circuitry underlying reward and motivation in the context of addiction in the mammalian brain. The position is ideally suited for an individual with a strong background in electrophysiology and imaging who is also interested in learning mouse molecular genetics and genomics to address important neurobiological questions. Dr. Kumar and his colleagues at JAX have significant expertise in the genetics of complex traits, and ample opportunities will be provided for independent training in cutting edge genomics, including genome editing and single cell genomics. The O’Connell laboratory has expertise in the synaptic neurophysiology of hypothalamic circuits related to regulation of food intake and body weight.

We seek motivated candidates, with PhD or nearing completion of PhD, who are eager to take advantage of the unique opportunities available at JAX to advance their careers by combining existing neuroscience expertise with unparalleled genetics and genomics training. Emphasis is placed on training the next generation of scientific leaders through the JAX Whole Scientist Program. Exceptional candidates can show early independence through the JAX Scholars Program.

JAX (http://www.jax.org) has a vibrant and interactive research community with unparalleled mouse resources and state of the art facilities for mouse neurobehavior, computational science, mass-spectrometry, imaging science, and genome technologies. JAX is located on Mount Desert Island on the coast of Maine and is adjacent to Acadia National Park, renowned for its scenic beauty and many venues for outdoor recreation.

To apply, please submit a single PDF containing a cover letter, a complete CV, a brief summary of research experience/interests, and the names and contact information of three references online JAX Careers. More information is also available at the Kumarlab.org.
