Job DescriptionPosition Description
The primary functions of the Network Engineer are installing, configuring, and maintaining network components as determined by the Senior Network Engineer for use within the NTC campus environments.
This position is responsible for ensuring the success of all aspects of initiatives he/she is charged with overseeing, and will interact with other system administrators, software engineers, and consultants to determine project requirements, enhancements and new development initiatives.
As a member of Middle Leadership, this person will portray a broad institutional perspective which supports the College's mission, vision, and goals while fostering and creating an environment which strives to project and meet customer needs. A Middle Leader will support a shared leadership culture, through participation in and facilitation of teams. This person is accountable for developing and implementing the means to accomplish the College's goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design, install, and maintain district's communication technologies to include Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).
Maintain and control network applications and communication technologies to ensure availability, adequate performance, and take corrective action when needed.
Manage and maintain Storage Area Network (SAN) to ensure data protection and availability.
Install, manage, and monitor, College Firewall and IDS appliances.
Maintain current and accurate network documentation.
Monitor and adhere to College wide backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Ensure adequate security is installed and monitored to protect the information of the College.
All other duties as assigned.
Associate's Degree with emphasis in Information Systems or Computer Science is preferred, AND
One year of experience in installation and configuration of network systems, wide area network, and network monitoring and troubleshooting techniques, with proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without formal authority, OR
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Ability to analyze and present data and information, orally and in writing and in non-technical language is required.
Must possess strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Computer skills in word processing and databases preferred.
Network operating system certification desired (CCIE, CCNA, CCNP, MCSE).
