The Harper Lab at Harvard Medical School seeks a motivated Research Assistant III. This role is responsible for facilitating the Harper Lab’s research program through participation in experiments and support efforts to maintain lab operations. Approximately 50% of this individual's time will be spent on laboratory organization and support tasks and the remainder supporting experiments within the laboratory. This individual will report directly to the PI and work closely with PI’s executive administrator. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Harvard Medical School brings together world renowned scientists, innovative researchers and dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of uncover new biological principles. The lab's focus is on organelle quality control and understanding how the ubiquitin-proteasome system
and autophagy regulate proteome balance. We use biochemistry, genetics, proteomics and imaging to elucidate genes and pathways important for organelle quality control in the context of neurodegeneration. Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline required; directly related work experience may substitute.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
A minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of biological or related sciences
Master’s degrees preferred
Familiarity with cell biological research laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, safety, compliance, and record keeping.-Familiarity with multiple Cell Biological and Molecular Biological assays required.
Experience in DNA cloning, PCR, tissue culture, immunoblotting, and flow cytometry is appreciated. -Exceptional organization skills, with demonstrated ability to multi-task to enable many concurrent projects in a complex, fast paced environment. -Quantitative, analytic, and problem-solving skills are a plus.-Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to work closely with other colleagues as a team; experience and comfort in working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and differing viewpoints; openness to new ideas.-Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
This is a 12-month term position with possibility of extension, dependent on work performance and continued funding for the position.
