Job Description

The Laboratory for Applied Mathematics, Numerical Software, and Statistics (LANS) in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of mathematical optimization and machine learning. The postdoctoral researcher will work with Argonne staff to design, analyze, and apply methods for derivative-free/zeroth-order optimization especially relevant to challenging classes of scientific machine learning problems.

Requirements:

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or a related discipline (completed within the last 3 years, or soon to be completed)
  • Graduate/postgraduate research in mathematical optimization, statistics, numerical analysis, or machine learning.
  • Experience developing mathematical algorithms or numerical software.

Desired but not required knowledge:
  • Analyzing algorithms
  • Designing randomized, stochastic, or zeroth-order/derivative-free algorithms
  • Researching statistical and machine learning techniques
  • Developing parallel algorithms and software

US citizenship is not required.
