Job Summary/Basic Function:
Performs routine laboratory procedures according to protocols that may include but not limited to maintaining cell cultures, making solutions, buffers, reagents, handling research animals, etc. using standard techniques and/or complex lab equipment. Receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments. Receives regular supervision for most assignments. Supports team to achieve goals. Expected to perform the following duties after appropriate training and time in the position. Completion of a high school biological science course. Basic knowledge of routine technical/functional procedures. Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented and work as a team player. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compute simple mathematical computations. Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals.
Minimum Degree Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
