Job Description


A research technician position is available in the lab of Dr. Melanie Samuel at Baylor College of Medicine in the fields of neuroscience, physiology, aging and molecular biology. Our group focuses on synaptic development, maintenance and translational applications in neural diseases. We seek to uncover molecules that control neural identity and synaptic partner choice and to understand how disruptions these choices may contribute the processes of aging and disease.

Job Purpose

Performs the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Job Duties

As a member of the lab, you would provide responsible technical assistance in support of a research project by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to molecular biology and neuroscience. The applicant will work under supervision by a higher-level research staff member but be capable of managing his or her own duties and research efforts in consultation with the supervisor.

Responsibilities include animal colony maintenance, PCR, genotyping, conducting dissections and tissue collection, preparing lab stocks and solutions, assisting in laboratory stocking and organization, and documenting results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
