The Fishell lab is a neurobiology lab at Harvard Medical School and the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute. The lab employs a variety of techniques to understand the embryonic specification of cortical interneurons and the integration of interneurons into cortical circuits. As these cell populations have been heavily implicated in human developmental disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, and epilepsy, understanding their development is critical for advancing our knowledge of these diseases.
The candidate will work directly with the Fishell group primarily at Harvard Medical School (HMS). We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has experience with mouse work and colony maintenance to work as part of a research team. Specifically, the candidate is expected to carry out lab management duties and assist lab members with management of the animal colony. Basic computer skills and previous laboratory experience are essential.
Lab management and organization.
Sample preparation and sectioning.
Data processing and analysis.
Interacting and working with collaborators.
College background or equivalent work experience in a related discipline.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
B.S. in biology, neurobiology, molecular/cellular biology, or a related field, with at least 2 years of research experience.
Prior lab experience in maintaining animal colony.
Prior experience as a lab manager is desired but not necessary.
Must be able to work independently and on multidiscipline project teams.
Prior molecular, cellular and biochemical experience desired.
Outstanding personal initiative and communication skills.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
Strong analytical skills and detail-oriented.
Must be willing and able to develop and shift plans in service of a rapidly changing environment and troubleshoot to solve problems.
This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.
Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.
