Job Summary/Basic Function:
Performs research experiments and procedures according to standardized protocols and reports results. Receives instructions for each assignment and has the ability to implement the directions. Collects and presents data to Principal Investigator. Supports team to achieve goals. Expected to perform the following duties after appropriate training and time in the position. Responsibilities will include: -Basic cell culture procedures -Maintaining mouse colonies -Euthanizing animals and preparing tissue -Preparing and maintaining common lab reagents -Participation in lab and departmental meetings OMRF is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institute adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) campus in Oklahoma City. Bachelor’s degree typically in one of the biological sciences or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Basic knowledge of routine technical/functional laboratory procedures. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Degree Required:
Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Must be available for some weekend or holiday work, schedules can vary.
Experience managing a research lab and 7 years of relevant laboratory experience. Prefers two year commitment.
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
