Job Description
The Decision and Infrastructure Science (DIS) Division researches, designs, and delivers scientific tools and methodologies to inform decision-making regarding the most challenging security, risk, and resilience problems. DIS experts have developed methods to understand infrastructure dependencies and interdependencies, build resilient infrastructure, and respond to emergencies. As a multidisciplinary national laboratory, Argonne offers an exciting atmosphere in which to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, enabling the exploration of complex technical problems through the integrated application of natural, social, and computer science practices. DIS is seeking one or more post-doctoral appointees to support a growing and longstanding sponsored research portfolio focused on critical infrastructure security and resilience. The selected candidate(s) will have the opportunity to conduct applied research related to modeling and understanding the operations of critical infrastructure assets, systems, and networks under adverse conditions caused by natural and technological hazards and adversarial threats. The selected candidate(s) will apply expertise in one or more infrastructure systems (ideally, natural gas, oil, or electric power) drawing on advanced understanding of statistical and stochastic methods, optimization, geospatial, machine learning, and related analytic tools and techniques. This post-doc position will be supported by one or more program offices within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and/or the U.S. Department of Energy. The selected candidate(s) will have the opportunity to interface with sponsors and support the implementation of their research findings.
