The Product Development & Innovation In Vivo team at The Jackson Laboratory in Sacramento, CA has a new opportunity for a Ph.D. level Scientist requiring experience and expertise in Patient Derived Xenografts (PDX), oncology and/or immuno-oncology research. Additional experience in in vivo pharmacology, flow cytometry and FACS experience is also highly desired. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of publications in these fields of expertise. It is desirable but not required that candidates have 1-5 years of experience in a contract research organization, biotechnology or pharmaceutical company. The individual will work
hands on at the research bench with murine PDX models for oncology and/or immuno-oncology. Managerial and project management experience are required. M.D. and M.S. candidates with equivalent experience will be considered.
What distinguishes the incumbent from each level is the level of supervision required, independent judgment used, complexity of projects, expertise in project coordination and negotiation, proficiency in problem solving, impact of errors, wider range of experience and specialized knowledge.
- Works at the research bench on multiple PDX studies simultaneously. Provides regular updates regarding status of studies.
- Leads a team of research technologists in supporting the department’s product lines.
Follows and supports all institutional policies, procedures and practices and ensures that staff is compliant.
Oversees technologist staff working on study and provides scientific and technical support as needed.
Supports and implements the development of new models for drug discovery in the areas of oncology and immunology.
Successfully launches commercial and/or research and development studies within timeframe agreed to in signed Statement of Work.
Accuracy of data entry, record keeping, maintenance of LIMS online system, and ensure all study activities are properly logged.
Year over year improvement in staff morale as measured by the yearly staff survey and higher staff retention levels.
- Design and manage efficient and effective workflows.
- Individuals with a Ph.D. (and/or M.D.) in oncology and/or immunology and a minimum of 2 years of experience as a postdoctoral fellow or in a contract research laboratory, pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent experience will be considered for the Scientist level. Applicants with less experience may be considered for an Associate Scientist position. Senior Scientists must have at least 2 years of industry experience at the Scientist level. Individuals with a M.S. and a minimum of 8 years of basic research experience in oncology, immunology or pharmacology in a contract research laboratory, pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience with in vivo PDX study design and animal research (preferably rodents) and animal welfare and regulatory guidelines.
- Documented ability to develop and lead technical teams.
Strong leadership skills including a demonstrated ability to build key relationships, influence and motivate others.
Demonstrated success in making important decisions, often under some pressure and tight deadlines, which carry large financial consequences
- Must have excellent human relation, communication and listening skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Previous experience managing technical staff and project management are required.
