Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time. : Our team is searching for a Postdoctoral Appointee to perform research in biomolecular synthesis and assembly of living and composite (biotic/abiotic) nanomaterials. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists in the areas of engineered living and composite materials. Research will be primarily experimental and involve the design, engineering, and integration of natural processes and biological materials within engineered materials and/or composites. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Genetically engineer, express, purify, and characterize active proteins (e.g., enzymes) for use in functional composite materials. + Fabricate enzyme/polymer composites that are embedded in synthetic materials and capable of programmed release and transformation of the surrounding matrix + Biosynthesize metallic and ceramic oxide nanoparticles using filamentous fungi + Characterize biological, synthetic, and composite nanomaterials using optical and electron microscopy

+ Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in biophysics, bioengineering, biomaterials, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field + Experience in high-resolution optical imaging techniques and data analysis + Experience in microbiology including bacterial and fungal cell culture and identification + Experience in recombinant protein purification and genetic molecular engineering techniques + A proven track record of technical prowess, as evidenced by publications in scientific journals. A publication list should be included as part of the CV

+ Experience with NexGen sequencing and metagenomic characterization + Proven track record to conduct innovative, independent research + Experience with materials characterization (e.g., DLS, FTIR, NMR) + Experience with nanoparticle synthesis + Experience with scanning and/or transmission electron microscopy (e.g., cryoCLEM

The Nanosystems Synthesis and Analysis Department consists of Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) scientific research staff assigned to the Physical, Chemical, & Nanosciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. CINT is a DOE/Office of Science National User Facility operated jointly by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories with facilities at both Laboratories. Security Clearance:
