Job Description


The Clinical Scientific Curator for the Clinical Genomics and Genetics Services unit at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine will critically evaluate and interpret cancer genomic variants from curation into the JAX Clinical Knowledgebase (CKB). The Clinical Scientific Curator will assimilate and integrate data from scientific literature related to pathogenicity and predictive efficacy in a format compatible with clinical reporting and will assist in quality assurance and quality control of all data within CKB. 


  • Working with internal resources, external databases, and the scientific literature, will curate and interpret cancer genomic variants and therapeutic knowledge information through standard operating procedures.
  • Update clinical trial information and analyze efficacy evidence data on targeted therapies.
  • Ensure data integrity of the JAX Clinical Knowledgebase by implementing and executing quality assurance and quality control protocols and related QC projects.
  • Work with the computational sciences group to integrate and test new curation tools. 
  • Full level Clinical Scientific Curators will also work with JAX computational and laboratory scientists to design and implement high-throughput assays and analyze resultant data.


  • Ph.D. in genetics, genomics, cellular biology, molecular biology or an equivalent is required with zero to one year related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of targeted therapies, next-generation sequencing technology, genomics, clinical informatics, molecular diagnostics, pharmacology, and cancer biology.
  • Previous experience as a technical writer and/or curator is preferred.
  • Ability to quickly assess, interpret, integrate, and reassemble relevant medical and scientific literature.
  • Working knowledge of database/curation systems, including biomedical ontologies, and the ability to critically evaluate and use new systems is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to function as part of a matrixed organization and work as a team player required.
  • Full level Clinical Scientific Curators requires all the above plus:
    • two years of related experience
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in technical writing and oral presentations.
    • Extensive experience in functional assay design and execution to critically evaluate scientific rigor of results
