Summary
The Murray lab is seeking a motivated, detail oriented full time Research Assistant III to join our team at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The successful candidate will be working on projects critical to the Somatic Cell Gene Editing (SCGE) consortium. As part of the consortium, projects will be focused on building and validating new mouse resources that will be used to test the specificity and safety of novel CRISPR based genome editing technologies intended for future translational applications. In addition, validating delivery of new therapeutic technologies such as nanoparticles and viral vectors and collaborating with external investigators will be a key part of the job responsibilities. This position is a great opportunity for experienced associates to expand their skills in cutting edge translational research. Experienced researchers with microscopy experience are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
· Conducts tests, experiments, and/or procedures following standard or detailed protocol; identifies and documents variations that may affect the validity of the experiment.
· Data collection and analysis. Performs quality control, monitors data for accuracy, uploads data to database system within agreed upon timelines with supervisor.
· Validate and conduct studies based upon standard experimental protocols within the agreed upon timelines with supervisor. Ensure functionality and maintenance of instrumentation.
· Assist in preparing data for progress reports, manuscripts, and grant applications.
· Microscopy, mouse colony maintenance, molecular biology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and cell culture techniques.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related discipline and 3+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience.
· Mouse handling and husbandry skills preferred.
· Fundamental experience using fluorescent and confocal microscopes
· Fundamental computer skills, including familiarity with Excel and Word.
· Ability to clearly and concisely communicate information verbally and in written form.
· Ability to demonstrate effective mental concentration, visual attention and dexterity.
· Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
· Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct.
· Proven ability to organize time effectively and work under time constraints, meet deadlines and prioritize work.
· Ability to work flexible shifts (evening/week-end/holiday).
