Job Summary/Basic Function:
The senior research technician is expected to perform routine laboratory procedures according to standardized protocols and report results. This person will receive detailed instructions on assignments and regular supervision. This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn mouse genetics and immunology. It also allows the individual to gain experience in general lab management. Responsibilities will include: - Managing mouse colonies: updating strain database, setting up breeders and genotyping by PCRs - Euthanizing animals and preparing tissue - Making common buffer/solutions and maintaining lab stocks of chemicals - Ordering reagents for the lab OMRF is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institute adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) campus in Oklahoma City. Masters degree typically in one of the biological sciences, physics, or chemistry or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Should be familiar with general lab techniques and basic knowledge of technical/functional procedures. Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented and work as a team player.
Minimum Degree Required:
Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
Previous experience with mice.
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
