Job DescriptionUniv. of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy seeks multiple Visiting Research Specialists. The lab of Dr. Scott Franzblau lab focuses on Tuberculosis research. The candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator on projects related to identifying drug leads for the treatment of various diseases including tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections.
Under the supervision of the Primary Investigator, the primary job duties include but are not limited to: the plasmid transformation into E. coli cells and small and large-scale bacterial culture for protein over-expression followed by protein purification using Ni-affinity, ion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography in order to solve protein-drug candidate structures that are critical for ITR. Other responsibilities may include the testing of various compounds for bacterial growth inhibition in vitro and in mice, running Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) experiments including ligand immobilization on CM5, SA, and NTA chips and equilibration of sensor surface followed by setting up analytes for binding affinity determination. Will be in charge of maintaining the lab equipment in working order.
Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Master’s degree in science preferred. A minimum of 3 year related research experience. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods. Proficient in specific lab research techniques. Experience handling laboratory animals (mice). Working knowledge of running Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) experiments. Ability to adopt a new protocol(s), when needed, to the lab’s repertoire of techniques.
