Job Description

In this position, the Postdoctoral Appointee will perform multi-scale, multi-physics modeling and simulation to design and analyze nuclear fuel and structural materials. The R&D activities associated with this position include:

  • Metallic fuel database development and quality assurance;
  • Validating predictions of nuclear materials performance and characteristics with experimental results and/or alternative benchmark models;
  • Evaluating and documenting the results of analytical activities for reports and presentations to the technical community;
  • Supporting the preparation of proposals to attract internal/external funding for new projects;
  • Coordinating related work activities at the Laboratory and elsewhere, as appropriate.

To be considered for this position, the Postdoctoral Appointee must have:  

  • Experience in modeling and simulation of nuclear fuel or structural materials;
  • Knowledge of one or more specialized areas in finite element modeling;
  • Knowledge of materials science principles, theories, advanced characterization techniques, and practices for the design, analysis, and testing of candidate nuclear fuel and cladding materials;
  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems;
  • Skills in the use of computers, programming, and in the analysis of computational results;
  • Clear and effective documentation and communication of results;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and with support personnel;
