Job Description

We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within our Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE).

In this role you will conduct computational research on solid-state materials for electrocatalysis and battery applications. The project will involve periodic calculations of the reaction mechanisms at the electrolyte-electrode interface and spectral simulations (e.g., XANES simulations). This research is closely collaborated with experimental studies.

We expect you to have:

  • Comprehensive understanding of quantum mechanics and electronic structure theory is critical.
  • Considerable computational expertise in using density functional theory (DFT) methods to calculate reaction mechanisms for inorganic/organic reactions is essential.
  • Expertise in applying DFT+U methods for transition metal oxide systems is preferred.
  • Experience in modelling XANES spectra using TDDFT or finite difference methods would be an asset.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills is a requirement.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, computational materials science, or chemical engineering at the Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and computational research experience.

This is a one year position with the potential for 2-3 additional years based on available funding.
