The Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR) at Baylor College of Medicine is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Project Coordinator/Research Assistant to support the Project Management and Bioinformatics teams with data tracking, record keeping, and administrative logistics of large and diverse microbiome research projects. The center is growing rapidly so the ability to multi-task and handle many moving parts is a necessity. The successful candidate will assist with project planning, data management, workflow design, and other administrative tasks as needed, including generation of status reports and meeting summaries. Good organizational and communication skills are a must, with demonstrated independent thinking and problem-solving ability. Experience using or constructing databases (e.g., AirTable) is recommended. Utilization of the command line for data manipulation is preferred but not required.
Work with the Project Management team and Bioinformatics team on data entry, sample tracking and database updates
Maintain records for microbiome research projects
Collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocols
Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study and present them to PI, project management and bioinformatics teams.
Project planning, data management, workflow design, and other tasks as needed, including generation of status reports, meeting summaries and present them to PI and project management team
Prepare, plan and implement experiments in microbiome research
Prepare data for submission to on-line repositories
Support funded collaborative projects including assistance with project scoping, data generation, analysis, reporting and present them to PI and project management team
Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
Two years of relevant experience.
Master's degree in a related field.
Good organizational and communication skills are a must, with demonstrated independent thinking and problem-solving ability.
Experience using or constructing databases (e.g., AirTable).
Experience in utilization of the command line for data manipulation.
