Job Description
The Research Technician II will provide responsible research and sample processing assistance for the processing of SARS-CoV-2 tests in the Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR) at Baylor College of Medicine main campus. The Research Technician II will handle protocols with lots of moving parts and must follow instructions, may perform certain repetitive tasks. Technical assistance is primarily required for the decontamination, accessioning, aliquoting, and RNA extraction of SARS-CoV-2 test kit materials along with all associated documentation. This position will encompass training in sample handling and RNA extraction. These protocols are sensitive, requiring a technician that is meticulous, dexterous, and that has an appreciation for the risks involved in handling potentially infectious materials in a responsible manner. These activities will take place in a CAP/CLIA certified laboratory space, and will adhere to good laboratory practices (GLP) guidelines and documentation.
- Conducts routine laboratory experiments.
- Performs routine technical laboratory procedures.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Enters data into research forms and/or databases.
- Operates, cleans, and maintains equipment and work areas.
- Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports.
- Provides assistance for the processing of SARS-CoV-2 tests. The technical assistance is primarily required for the decontamination, accessioning, aliquoting, and RNA extraction of RS-CoV-2 test kit materials along with all associated documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology
- Two years of relevant laboratory experience
