The Staff Scientist conducts projects and supervises the processing of samples in the production pipeline under the general guidance of the project manager but exhibits the ability to plan and implement experiments and analyze their results. The Staff Scientist will provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in support of research projects including assistance with project scoping, data generation, analysis, scientific writing, audits and reporting. Daily tasks include documenting, evaluating, analyzing, monitoring and communicating about scientific and collaborative projects. Status report generation, data presentations, and manuscript preparation are also some of the routine duties and responsibilities for this position. Interaction with a variety of collaborators will be routine so a high level of interpersonal communication skills is needed. Should be flexible and commit to finishing goals in a timely manner. The position is focused on qPCR design, execution, and analysis. Qualified candidates should be good at multi-tasking, problem-solving, and have strong communication skills. Experience with compliance (CAP/CLIA/GxP) is preferred. Will require weekly interaction with business development team and customers/collaborators.

Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
Three years of post doctoral research experience.
Ph.D. in the field of Microbiology or similar.
Demonstrated experience in PCR, RT-PCR, TaqMan® qPCR.
Proven proficiency in data analysis, research design, troubleshooting, and the evaluation of new techniques and procedures.
Experience in statistical analysis and /or in the genomic analysis of microbial community data.
Two years GxP regulated laboratory experience.
Expertise in the methods and techniques of molecular biology and microbiology.
Broad familiarity of applications associated with RT-qPCR and next generation sequencing (NGS).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
Comfort with discussing complex scientific ideas with multiple audience types and educational levels.
Experience working constructively with shifting priorities in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
Ease with documenting experimental procedures, collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing data and interpreting detailed assay procedures and test results.
Excellence in troubleshooting problematic results.
Dedication to updating sample tracking and project summaries using excel sheets and performing routine laboratory equipment maintenance and logging records as required.
