Job posting number: #7071959
Posted: November 9, 2020
Application Deadline: November 22, 2020
Job DescriptionRecruitment Event: Week of December 14-18, 2020 (exact date TBD)
Application Deadline: November 22, 2020 (11:59 pm EST)
The HMS/HSDM Office for Postdoctoral Fellows, along with the Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership, are holding a Virtual Postdoctoral Recruitment Program (PRP) for select PhD, MD, or MD/PhD students who are nearing the completion of – or who have recently completed – their studies and are considering a postdoctoral position in biomedical sciences as the next stage in their career development. The program will allow participants to establish networking connections, as well as participate in career and professional development workshops. Those selected will gain insight about research opportunities at HMS and connect with current faculty of interest who may have a postdoctoral fellowship position available in an appropriate 0-18 month timeframe.
This virtual event will allow students to meet with, and present their work to, potential mentors in their fields of research who either have, or anticipate having, positions in their labs in the near future. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in career and professional development workshops.
Late stage* students in MD, MD/PhD, or PhD (or equivalent) programs OR those who have recently completed their degrees (*approximately 0-18 months from expected graduation)
Applications from women and minority candidates historically underrepresented in the basic and social sciences are strongly encouraged
PARTICIPATING FACULTY AND DEPARTMENTS
Participating mentors and positions can be found HERE. You can select up to three (3) faculty mentors. All faculty are members of the Pre-clinical Science Departments at Harvard Medical School. *All communication should be directed to email@example.com. Please DO NOT contact faculty directly.*
Interested candidates must complete and submit a short application where they will upload 1) up to 3 Letters of Interest (tailored to each lab) briefly discussing their interest, their research interests, and future goals as a postdoc at Harvard Medical School and 2) a copy of their CV. Candidates will also have the opportunity to identify up to 3 faculty members/labs with whom they would be interested in connecting. APPLY HERE
One letter of recommendation from the candidate’s doctoral studies advisor or mentor is required. The letter should address the candidate’s likelihood for success in a postdoctoral position, emphasizing both strengths and areas for growth. To be submitted separately HERE or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
November 22, 2020 - Preferred deadline. Completed applications received by this date will receive preference.
November 29, 2020 - Final deadline.
Applications will be reviewed by Harvard Medical School faculty and administrators. Candidates are selected on the basis of the alignment of their research interests to the opportunities available at HMS and commitment to the HMS Mission and Community Values.
Two days during the week of December 14, 2020 (TBD), selected candidates will give a brief (3-5 minute) research summary. The individual candidates will then meet with faculty to discuss opportunities in their department/lab. In addition to meeting with faculty, candidates will participate in a Q&A session with a panel of current and former HMS Postdoctoral Fellows. Finally, the program will offer a “Postdoc Essentials” workshop covering strategies for ensuring the right environment to thrive as a postdoc while planning, and executing, a successful postdoc tenure. Successful candidates may be invited for a follow-up opportunity to meet with individual lab group members to discuss science, career, and living/working in the Boston-Cambridge area.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the HMS/HSDM Office for Postdoctoral Fellows with any questions.
This program is supported by the HMS/HSDM Office for Postdoctoral Fellows, the Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership, and the Office for Research Operations.
Harvard Medical School strives to cultivate an environment that promotes inclusiveness and collaboration among students, faculty and staff and to create new avenues for discussion that will advance our shared mission to improve the health of people throughout the world.
