Job Description

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to join the Nuclear Systems Analysis Department. The individual will develop/update computational strategies/methodologies, neutron/gamma transport codes, and nuclear design capabilities to model and simulate advanced nuclear reactors. Analyze multi-physics aspects of nuclear fission reactors including neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, and other physics behavior and perform V&V analyses using benchmark problems and experimental data. Investigate/analyze performance of nuclear fission reactors and fuel cycle facilities and contribute to optimization of reactor and fuel cycle design. Produce technical papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.

  • Knowledge of one or more specialized areas of fission reactor physics, engineering, or fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
  • Skill in programming languages Fortran, C++, Python, etc.
  • Experiences in deterministic and Monte Carlo neutron/gamma transport codes as well as Multiphysics calculations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Desired Skills:

  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.
  • Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel. 

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in engineering or physics or associated field at the Ph.D. level & 0+ years of professional experience or equivalent.
