Job Description

The X-ray Science Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of the application of machine learning to advanced X-ray spectroscopy for multimodal data capture, exploration and discovery. You will focus on research and development applying machine learning methods to experimental and simulated X-ray emission spectra for in situ data analysis and visualization.

Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or other Physical Sciences/Engineering disciplines within the last 3 years, with a strong research background in scientific computing and data analysis.

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • First principles calculations of X-ray emission and absorption spectra
  • Software development for the application of unsupervised machine learning on data pre-processing
  • Development architecture/methodology for in-situ data processing using artificial intelligence and experimental steering capability
  • Applying machine learning approaches, including deep learning, to scientific problems
  • Experiments involving synchrotron x-ray spectroscopy

Keen interest in developing new data analysis, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, and visualization methods for in-situ data analysis on X-ray emission and absorption spectroscopies.
