Job DescriptionThe Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics invites applications for an Assistant Professor to work in the laboratory of Dr. Wladek Minor. This 100% grant-supported tenure-ineligible faculty position requires the combination of world-class skills in structural biology/ protein crystallography and experience in bioinformatics. The individual will play a major role in high-profile, cutting-edge NIH-funded research in the area of structural biology and bioinformatics.
The successful applicant must be motivated, independent, and highly organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The incumbent will work on the development of methods that will lead to faster and more robust structure determination and refinement. The incumbent will also be involved in the development of databases and knowledge systems by performing cutting-edge structural biology research for an NIAID structural genomics initiative (the Center for Structural Genomics of Infectious Diseases - CSGID) and other high-profile NIH funded projects.
Experience in protein crystallography and excellent knowledge of issues related to protein production/purification, crystallographic data reduction, structure determination, and refinement, as documented by at least 80 Protein Data Bank deposits and at least 20 structural biology publications, is also required. Extensive experience working with ligand identification/refinement is a must. A Ph.D. in biophysics/physics/molecular biology or a related field is required.
