Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Yoon Lab is looking for a highly motivated, organized, responsible person who will play a key role in achieving the mission of the lab. Using Drosophila (fruit fly), we aim to discover cellular and molecular mechanisms how metabolic dysfunctions cause human diseases including neurological diseases. We utilize variety of approaches including genetics, metabolomics, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology as well as confocal and electron microscopy. Responsibilities will include: - Maintenance of Drosophila stocks - Conducting genetic experiments to assess gene function in Drosophila - Prep of Drosophila tissue samples and imaging using fluorescent and confocal microscopes - Conducting basic molecular biology experiments such as PCR and cloning - Detailed documentation of experiments and results - Participation in lab and departmental meetings OMRF is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institute adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) campus in Oklahoma City. Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS degree typically in one of the biological sciences, physics, or chemistry or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Familiarity with pipetting technique and calculation of solution concentrations/dilutions. Ability to record detailed procedures and results. Apply developing knowledge to coordinate day-to-day work, complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments. Basic knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, data base and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented and work independently as well as a team player. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals. Ability to speak effectively to present ideas and data analysis to supervisor, who will decide how to proceed. Suggest changes to experiments and procedures. Ability to exchange ideas and procedures with co-workers and other labs.

Minimum Degree Required:
Bachelors Degree

Work Hours: Typically Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:30, but must be willing to work occasional overtime.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three to four years of relevant lab experience. Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Drosophila genetics, Drosophila tissue preparation, Drosophila dissection, immunolabeling, and/or microscopy.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
