Job Description

We are seeking a highly dedicated postdoctoral appointee to deliver leading-edge research in the areas of transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors and nano-scale optical phenomena for the development of nano-electronics and optics. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Conduct research with multidisciplinary teams, using photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM) as the main research tool + Perform fundamental and heavily experimental research, with the primary goal of understanding electron energetics and optical field enhancement at the micro- and nanoscales + Design experimental systems based on transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors and optical meta-surfaces + Construct supplemental equipment if necessary + Conduct experimental research based on PEEM as well as other tools as needed (focusing on the electronic structure and the optical field) + Assist in the development of both analytical and numerical models used to describe experimental findings + Collaborate with multi-investigator teams, present results at national/international meetings, and publish research in high profile peer-reviewed journals + Tackle complex problems creatively, working both independently and in collaboration with other researchers

Required:
+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field + Experience in analytical microscopy or spectroscopy + Experience with data processing using a programming software environment + Experience with ultrahigh vacuum equipment + Proven record of technical accomplishments and communications, as evidenced by publications in scientific journals and conference presentations

Desired:
+ Experience with x-ray, ultraviolet lamp, synchrotron, or laser-based photoelectron spectroscopy + Experience with nano-scale imaging methods, such as atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) + Experience with software development for data processing + Experience constructing ultrahigh vacuum systems or parts of ultrahigh vacuum equipment + Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously + Proven ability to manage project progress and deliver timely results

Department Description:

The Nanosystems Synthesis and Analysis Department consists of CINT scientific research staff assigned to the Physical, Chemical, & Nanosciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. CINT is a DOE/Office of Science National User Facility operated jointly by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories with facilities at both Laboratories. The CINT Science Department is dedicated to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials into microscale and macroscale systems and devices.
