This position is for a technician to provide responsible research and sample processing assistance for the processing of SARS-CoV-2 tests in the Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR) at Baylor College of Medicine main campus. This job is suitable for someone who can handle protocols with lots of moving parts, can follow instructions, and does not mind performing certain repetitive tasks. Technical assistance is primarily required for the decontamination, accessioning, aliquoting, and RNA extraction of SARS-CoV-2 test kit materials along with all associated documentation. This position will encompass training in sample handling and RNA extraction. These protocols are sensitive, requiring a technician that is meticulous, dexterous, and that has an appreciation for the risks involved in handling potentially infectious materials in a responsible manner. These activities will take place in a CAP/CLIA certified laboratory space, and will adhere to good laboratory practices (GLP) guidelines and documentation.
Provides assistance for the processing of SARS-CoV2 tests.
Decontamination, accessioning, aliquoting and RNA extractions of SARS-Cov-2 Test kits materials along with all associated documentation.
Enters data relate to SARS-CoV2 Tests into research forms and/or databases.
Operates, cleans, and maintains equipment and work areas.
This position will encompass training in sample handling and RNA extraction.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Experience Required: None Required.
Prefer Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology and two years of relevant laboratory experience.
