Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ, invites applicants for a full-time instructor position with the Department of Mathematics teaching college algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, or business calculus.
The position is a fixed-term, nine-month appointment at the rank of instructor. This is a full-time, full-benefits, non-tenure-track position with yearly renewal depending on satisfactory performance.
The typical workload is four courses per semester, plus office hours and departmental service, with opportunities for summer teaching in most years. Courses taught will range from developmental mathematics to business and introductory engineering calculus.
This appointment is for the academic year 2020-2021 with an expected start date of August 2020.
Embry-Riddle is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona. Excellence in undergraduate education and strong faculty/student interaction are highly valued as the central themes of our campus.
The Mathematics Department is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences and serves undergraduate students in the aviation, business, science, and engineering fields. The department presently has eleven full-time faculty specializing in several fields of pure mathematics, including group theory, combinatorics, non-commutative rings, matrix analysis, algebraic geometry, and operator algebra.
Prescott is one of the most desirable locations in the Southwest. At 5000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. We are located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
Master’s degree in pure or applied mathematics, mathematics education, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
· Eighteen hours of graduate-level mathematics coursework at the time of appointment.
· Experience teaching college algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, or business calculus at the level of community college or four-year university.
· Effective written and oral communication skills.
· Evidence of effective teaching.
