Are you passionate about research in electrochemical materials? Consider joining our group and make a difference! We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct electrochemical materials research and development as a member of the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) team. As a postdoctoral associate you’ll explore liquid electrolyte derived interphases formed at battery electrode surfaces and determine their impact on charge transfer. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Conduct Glove box-based materials chemistry synthesis and subsequent property and electrochemical characterization of liquid electrolytes + Coordinate, perform, and/or analyze of materials characterization experiments using electron microscopies (SEM, TEM, cryo-TEM), spectroscopies (XPS, ToF-SIMS, NMR, Raman), scanning electrochemical microscopy/atomic force microscopy, laboratory-based x-ray tomography, and synchrotron-based x-ray methods + Contribution to publication and presentation of scientific findings, including drafting manuscripts for review and publication

Required:
+ Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in a chemistry, materials, physics or engineering related field and have a bachelor’s in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) + Experience in the field of electrochemical-based energy storage + Experience with electrochemical measurements and instrumentation + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE security clearance

Desired:
+ Experience conducting operando materials characterization in electrochemical cells + Experience with material characterization with one or more of the following: SEM, TEM, NMR, Raman, AFM, XAS, XRD + Proven experience with glove box operations for materials chemistry and electrochemistry research activities

The Nanoscale Sciences Department conducts collaborative leading-edge research that advances the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enables the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions.
