Job Description

The Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow in the ECP Exastar project. The Exastar project is one of the Applications Development Project funded under the ECP project to prepare scientific codes for simulation of supernovae on the upcoming exascale platforms. One of the codes is FLASH, which uses adaptive mesh refinement for discretization. It is important to ensure that the AMR infrastructure of FLASH operates well on heterogeneous platform. This is a two year post-doctoral position to prepare the underlying octree based AMR in FLASH for heterogeneity.

The ideal candidate will have deep understanding of the scientific process, strong knowledge of numerical methods and experience in software development for high performance computing platforms. The candidate will be required to communicate and collaborate with researchers in domain science as well as applied mathematicians and software engineers. The candidate should have excellent programming skills and a commitment to software quality and productivity. Prior knowledge of, and experience with FLASH will be a definite plus. A PhD + 0-3 years of experience.
